Success/ Failure
I decided to alternate each image as success then failure to illustrate the ups and downs of Dustin’s life.
Pop Art: Since pop art deals with pop culture, I would like to photograph Dustin in a pop culture environment, perhaps some of the big advertisements on the sides of buildings you see around the city, and possibly have him interact with them.
I may even have him splatter himself in bright colored paint. This image inspired that, and it would be a good illustration for the struggle for success and failure.
Cubism: I would like to cut up the image and abstract like you traditional cubism paintings. I would like to use an earth tone palette like Picasso did in this painting.
Art Nouveau: Klimt is a huge inspiration to me and I would like to possibly do a spoof of his Kiss painting. This painting shows struggle between a couple and fits perfectly into the success and failure of life. I would set up hints of metallics through out the composition.
Expression: Expressionism seeks to depict subjective emotions rather than reality. I would again like to mimic another artist, Egon Schiele, for this step. In this image I would like to have Dustin distort his body to show his inner feelings on the surface. Him being the only thing in the composition will isolate him and his body and arms and tattoos will create the only linear objects in the photograph.
Dustin comes from a traditional Thai family. His parents were both born in Thailand and moved to America to raise their family and start a business. Dustin lives in a small town in Ohio and has worked for his family’s restaurant since he was a young boy. Growing up it was difficult for him to live a normal life. Having so much responsibility as a young boy was a strain on his childhood. Now as a young man, he still has many responsibilities when it comes to taking care of his family and helping with his business. However, he now lives his life with no holding back. He lives each day to the fullest showing everyone around him that he has had enough of caring what people think and he is living his life for him and no one else. He travels from his small town to the city and explores his surroundings everyday. Each day is an adventure for him and no one fully understands who he really is, but he enjoys his secrecy. It is the only thing he holds dear to him as rants around town showing everyone that he is having the best time of his life.
